Skylar Fry

I’m a writer with a background in ballet, English, and marketing. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with degrees in Dance and English with Honors, and since then, have worked across technical writing, marketing, education, tech, aviation, and the arts. I’ve written for global consulting firms, local businesses, independent authors, and creative organizations, always with a focus on clarity, connection, and thoughtful storytelling.

Whether I’m shaping a brand voice, simplifying a complex idea, or crafting something more creative, I approach my work with the same discipline, curiosity, and artistry that shaped me as a dancer.

My Story

I grew up in Southwest Florida as an avid ballet student, Model UN enthusiast, and spirited child who loved books as much as chasing butterflies. Dance shaped my early sense of discipline and curiosity, while academic life sparked a love for research , storytelling, and culture. Each thread led me across the country to the University of Arizona, where I earned degrees in Dance and English, discovering how naturally movement, writing, and community could merge in a dynamic four years.

During college, I wrote and published a food and culture magazine, my ode to Tucson and the people who made me fall in love with that colorful desert town. That project unlocked a deep interdisciplinary interest in the way people, place, history, and flavor shape identity. It also inspired the creation of my very goofy food and travel Instagram (@skylar._.eats), which continues to remind me that creativity thrives when we don't take ourselves too seriously. Bon Appetite hasn't hired me to travel the world and review food yet, but I enjoy taking terrible selfies with friends and families over plates of our favorite gnash.

After graduation, I moved to the Northeast to dance in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I performed, taught, and immersed myself in the arts community - a whirlwind experience. I also became a substitute teacher at a wonderful school (and quickly became known as the only adult who would play tag with the preschoolers at recess). I did, in fact, rip my pants, playing airplanes one afternoon. Unfortunately for me, preschoolers have remarkably sharp memories when it comes to adults crash landing in gym class. If only they could remember not to pick their noses instead.

I spent that same chapter building an eclectic collection of skills: I worked as a personal and executive assistant in NYC (and yes, The Devil Wears Prada hits home for me), bartended in a tiny prohibition-era tavern in New Hope, wrote for a luxury travel company in Florida, wrote ESL curriculum for a global tutoring company, managed a local Pennsylvania farm market, and became a social media marketing guru. I even began working with an international digital reputation and consulting firm, focusing on internal and external communication. Though my life felt a bit all over the place (and it was), I slowly built a reputation for helping brands share their stories with clarity and personality.

Today, I live in Pocatello, Idaho and Naples, Florida, still dancing and writing and marketing and photographing and learning and occasionally falling down and ripping my plants while playing airplanes at recess...

I care about communication that feels human, exploring wellness and art, discovering new ways to live a meaningful life, laughing with friends and family, and planning my next great meal.

My story is full of movement, curiosity, and connection. As it continues to unfold, I am excited for all the adventure that has yet to unfold.
